Third artistic part of Pilar Miralles' doctoral research

After witnessing, listening, and touching, there were still the voices. Strata of memories have been accumulating and find now a last opportunity to encounter new vessels in our bodies. These remaining voices invite us to come closer, to spend some intimate time remembering with them, understanding how acknowledging and valuing are still a possibility in a world dominated by the logics of waste.

“Esparto, revisited” is the last of a series of three installations in which Miralles invites the audience to participate in her process of memory retrieval and re-imagination of esparto grass. Esparto grass is a vegetal fiber used for a waning crafting tradition in Miralles’ homeland in Southeastern Spain. Through this process, Miralles wonders how remembering through artistic practice can contribute to regaining a deeper awareness of the time and place we inhabit, despite our embeddedness in a fast-changing world.

Changes are possible.
