From local beginnings to global stages! The Young People’s Symphony Orchestra (YPSO) stands as the oldest independent youth orchestra in the U.S.

Founded in 1936 in Berkeley, California, the Young People’s Symphony Orchestra (YPSO) stands as the oldest independent youth orchestra in the U.S. — and a true legacy of musical excellence.
For over 85 years, YPSO has shaped the talents of young musicians across the San Francisco Bay Area, many of whom have gone on to become internationally recognized artists and influential community leaders.

Under the direction of David Ramadanoff, now in his 35th season, students receive world-class coaching, refining both technical mastery and artistic expression. With members aged 11–21 from across 28 cities, YPSO is more than an orchestra — it’s a community built on passion, discipline, and growth.

From Carnegie Hall to the Sydney Opera House and the Musikverein, YPSO’s sound has echoed across the world’s most iconic stages. Their mission goes beyond music: shaping not only exceptional musicians, but exceptional people.

The concert is free of charge, but a seat must be reserved by obtaining a free ticket from the Musiikkitalo box office.
