UMO’s club series continue: Tonight the focus is on the conductor Guillermo Kleinand and Norwegian guitar virtuoso Lage Lund.
OCTOBER UMO CLUB: NEW CONDUCTOR AND PROGRAMME, SAME SOLIST!
Conductor-composer-pianist Christian Elsässer’s guest appearance with UMO has been cancelled. The Argentine-born composer, pianist, and conductor Guillermo Klein – who worked as UMO’s Artistic Partner from 2020 to 2021 – will step in as the replacement conductor. For this concert Klein curates a program of his own music, highlighting UMO’s own soloists alongside the Norwegian guitar virtuoso Lage Lund, who is making his debut as a soloist with this orchestra. Klein also arranges two of Lund’s compositions for this special ensemble.
The composer, pianist and conductor Guillermo Klein (b. 1969) was born in Buenos Aires in Argentina. He studied in the United States and is currently based in New York. Klein is a global jazz persona with a versatile musical background, ranging from classical education to rock and a degree in jazz, complemented by Latino influences. Klein has worked with several large orchestras, including hr-Bigband and the Metropole Orchestra. He also leads his own group, Los Guachos.
Lage Lund (b. 1977) is recognized as one of the most esteemed jazz guitarists and composers of his generation. Originally from Norway and now based in New York City, Lund is known for a distinctive technique that is always at the service of the music. He rose to international prominence after winning the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Guitar Competition in 2005. Since then, he has been a creative force in the genre, releasing several critically acclaimed albums and collaborating with jazz luminaries such as Maria Schneider and Melissa Aldana. Lund’s adventurous music is both timeless and uncompromisingly modern. www.lagelund.com
