Philomela 40 – when only this moment is here, and at the same time all the moments that ever existed.

Known for its wide-ranging expression, Philomela is celebrating its 40-year career in the Helsinki Music Centre’s big concert hall. The core of the anniversary concert repertoire is formed by new works commissioned from Nordic composers. In new pieces the Nordic languages and folk music tradition are intertwined in fascinating ways.
The composers of the premiers are Katarina Barruk who uses the rare Ume Sami language in her work, the Icelandic band Umbra, and composer-musicians Anna Gallon, Anna-Mari Kähärä and Tellu Turkka who draw inspiration from Finnish folklore and poetry. The concert is conducted by Anna Gallon.
