Harold is a dreamer, and as he wanders through Italy, visions of love, history and adventure swirl in his head. Hector Berlioz identified completely with Byron’s hero, and in Harold en Italie he transforms dream into reality on an epic scale – perfect for our viola soloist, Lawrence Power. For Nicholas Collon, though, the story doesn’t end there: he opens Debussy’s enchanted toybox, and lights up the skies with Respighi’s roof-raising musical postcard from Rome.
