Leoš Janáček: Glagolitic Mass

Leoš Janáček was from Moravia in northern Bohemia. The folk music of the region –its strong vitality, heartfelt exclamations, songs of joy and sorrow – had a great influence on his music. Janáček composed his Mass with an upright and confident voice. The musical language is far from Catholic humility and penitence. “I want to show people how to speak to our dear Lord,” the composer said.
