Alexander Melnikov, piano

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: The Magic Flute, overture
Ludwig van Beethoven: Triple Concerto in C Major for Violin, Cello, Piano and Orchestra
Robert Schumann: Introduction and Allegro appassionato in G major, Op. 92
Joseph Haydn: Symphony No. 98 in B Flat Major

Mozart composed his opera overtures as musical trailers whose task was to quiet the audience and shift their attention from chatting and exchanging news to following the opera that was about to begin.

In this concert without a conductor, Ludwig van Beethoven’s Triple Concerto is performed almost self-sufficiently, with the orchestra’s second concertmaster Kreeta-Julia Heikkilä and second solo cellist Beata Antikainen shining as soloists. Seated at the piano is super pianist Alexander Melnikov, who will also be heard as a soloist after the intermission in Robert Schumann’s Concertpiece.
