“As if God the Father had thrown down pieces of a mosaic from the floor of heaven and asked me to work out the pattern”, wrote Jean Sibelius in his diary in April 1915. His fifth symphony, one of the composer’s most beloved, was born from heavenly building blocks. In her composition Verdigris, Lotta Wennäkoski “twists, turns, colors and arranges” motifs she picked up from Sibelius’s tone poem En Saga.
