Yle was launched 100 years ago this year. That calls for a celebration – and in classical music, celebrations don’t come much bigger than Janacek’s exuberant Sinfonietta. But that’s just the spectacular climax to tonight’s musical journey back to 1926, the year it all began. First, Nicholas Collon visits France, Hungary (in company with piano virtusoso Francesco Piemontesi) and – of course – Finland, where Väinö Raitio has a typically fantastic message from his time to our own.
