Radion sinfoniaorkesteri

Nicholas Collon, conductor
Leonidas Kavakos, violin

Grażyna Bacewicz: Pensieri notturni
Béla Bartók: Violin Concerto No. 2
Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony No. 3 E Flat Major Op. 55 “Eroica”

Two chords slam out, and western music is changed forever. There’s still nothing to match the pure, electrical thrill of Beethoven’s revolutionary Eroica symphony, but then, every composer in this concert was a radical in their own way – whether defying convention in postwar Poland, like Grazyna Bacewicz, or forging a new musical language from the soil and spirit of Hungary, like Béla Bartók. Few living violinists play his Second Concerto like Leonidas Kavakos.
