Antonín Dvořák: Overture “In Nature’s realm”
Georges Lentz: Violin Concerto “…to beam in distant heavens…”, Finnish premiere
Robert Schumann: Symphony No. 1 “Spring”

“Quicksilver nimbleness, weightlessness, and above all light” – those were the qualities of Arabella Steinbacher’s playing that captivated Georges Lentz. But there’s a dark side, too, to the concerto that he wrote for her, and which receives its Finnish premiere today. Fittingly, guest conductor Michael Schonwandt frames it with two visions of nature from the Romantic imagination – Dvorak’s joyful overture and Schumann’s verdant First Symphony. Perfect sounds for an April day.
