Schumann through the looking glass. It’s not every day you meet a musician who’s the complete package, but Jorg Widmann is both an inspirational conductor and a uniquely fascinating composer – a man who meets (and remakes) German romanticism on his own, very personal terms. In his hands, Schumann’s most Beethoven-like symphony encounters Widmann’s own magical homage to Schumann, sung today by the German-Hungarian baritone Michael Nagy. Both will emerge transformed.
