Ernest Chausson: “Poème de l’amour et de la mer”
Hector Berlioz: Symphonie fantastique

The Poem of Love and the Sea by Ernest Chausson is every bit as lusciously romantic as its title suggests. Hector Berlioz, in calling his work a Fantastic Symphony, no doubt intended it as a description of his own dreams and terrors. He further equipped it with the subtitle “Episodes in the Life of an Artist”, and in doing so was naturally alluding to himself.
