Aleksanteri Wallius is everything that the world of organ music needs: a cool-headed virtuoso, equally at home with the trickiest works of the classical repertoire, contemporary music, and his own arrangements. In tonight’s concert, Wallius gets to bring all of these strengths to the fore.

Wallius began playing the organ at the music programme of Puolalanmäki Upper Secondary School in Turku. His first organ lessons took place in the Tarkk’ampuja Chapel at Turku Cathedral, but his desire to play the cathedral’s main organ was strong. ”Once I finally got to play it, there was no going back,” he says. Wallius’s dedication has paid off: he has gained recognition at international organ competitions, and solo recitals have earned him a place at significant organ music events.

Olli Saari: Sammon taonta

Jean Sibelius: The Swan of Tuonela (arr. Wallius)

Franz Liszt: Sonata in B minor (arr. Rothkopf/Wallius)
