Organ virtuoso Paolo Oreni performs an intriguing selection of transcriptions of familiar compositions by Handel, Mozart, and Tchaikovsky.

Organist Paolo Oreni is one of the most spectacular contemporary virtuosos, who studied under the direction of Jean Guillou (1930–2019). The French Guillou renewed organ art through playing, composing, improvisation, and organ building. In this concert, Oreni performs an intriguing selection of his teacher’s transcriptions that fit perfectly on the Musiikkitalo’s Rieger organ. We will hear Guillou’s masterful transcriptions of familiar compositions by Handel, Mozart, and Tchaikovsky.

George Frideric Handel: Organ Concerto in D minor

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Adagio and Fugue in C minor (arr. Jean Guillou)

Franz Liszt: Prometheus, symphonic poem (arr. Jean Guillou)

Pyotr Tchaikovsky: Symphony No, 6, Pathétique: Scherzo (arr. Jean Guillou)

Sergei Prokofiev: Toccata (arr. Jean Guillou)
