In the opening concert of the Organ Night and Aria festival, Tapiola Sinfonietta and the Helsinki Music Centre Chorus perform Pärt’s profound and moving music.

2025 sees the 90th birthday of Arvo Pärt, the Estonian master composer whose unique tintinnabuli (referring to a Latin word meaning a bell) style opened up new vistas for contemporary music. Beneath the apparently simple surface of Pärt’s music lies rigorous structure, deep spirituality and intense emotional expression. The audience is invited to focus on each and every sound and to become aware of the smallest of changes, like observing the slow but constant transformations in the natural world around us. This programme focuses on choral and orchestral works written or revised in the last 25 years, culminating in his masterpiece Adam’s Lament, which deals with humanity’s self-inflicted suffering.

“Pain is the absence of love. But this pain is a healthy pain. It enables convalescence.” (Arvo Pärt)
