Maré Alta is an intercontinental band that first came together in 2022: after touring Europe with another group, the Brazilian bass player Sá Reston called his old partner in crime, the Finnish pianist Antti Lähdesmäki, with whose quartet he had toured in Finland and Brazil, and asked if they could make something happen in the end of Reston’s stint. Antti immediately put the wheels in motion and called the German, Denmark-based drummer Jan Kadereit he knew from his days in Copenhagen. From the first notes it was obvious that this was the trio that was meant to be: sharing a similar intuition, ability and affinity for risk-taking, the group quickly put together a dynamic repertoire consisting mostly of their electrifying versions of Brazilian classics.

What ensued can be heard on the album Live at Valsølille: a trio that roars right at you without a sign of exhaustion, as relentlessly as high tides– maré alta in Portuguese– yet constantly sharing a collective blink of joy and fun in their eyes.
