Michael Rahikainen

The themes of visual artist Michael Rahikainen's works are related to music.

Music has always been an important part of my life, all from ”Twinkle twinkle little star” to this day. Even in early drawings I made, music was there in one way or another: pictures of instruments, illustrations of orchestral works, eidetic visions born from music and also synesthesia. And I have been playing the guitar since I was 11 years old.

In my studio I have works connecting to music which I have done during the years. One day I was walking around in the Musiikkitalo and discovered that there was a possibility to exhibit art work. ”Well this is something for me”, I thought, “I want to have an exhibition here.”

The works draw their origin all from medieval ballads to hard rock, and in some cases I have just stolen the title of a composition and given it my own fantasy; ”Swan song” has nothing to do with Led Zeppelin’s record company and ”Song of the earth” has nothing more than the name from Gustav Mahler’s song.

I guess I also have unconsciously added my worries about environmental issues to some of the works. And some works have got a certain gloominess because of some old men going berserk here on our planet.

The art exhibition will be on display in the Main Lobby from February 2 to February 27, during the Musiikkitalo’s opening hours.
