UMO Jazz Orchestra

Prepare yourself for a club night of surprising and inspiring sounds, challenging the customary and traditional big band sound!

The musicians of the UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra are known for their wide range, and in this concert, they stretch and reexamine the boundaries of big band music under the baton of conductor Mikko Hassinen. The guest artists are the barytone saxophonist Pepa Päivinen, retired from UMO and known as an avant-garde trailblazer of free jazz, as well as the unique voice talent, jazz singer, and cellist Anni Elif. The name UMO comes from the Finnish words Uuden Musiikin Orkesteri, meaning orchestra for new music, and in this concert, we focus tightly on new music. Kirmo Lintinen’s new commissioned work gets its premiere during this club night. Laura Haimila hosts the evening events and discussions, ensuring that the audience follows along in the whirlwind of new musical discoveries. This is a night of bravery, experimentation, and creativity – follow along!

In addition to single club tickets, you can also purchase a season ticket that includes all six club nights or season tickets for three nights of your choice.

The club has no age limit. The capacity is quite limited; there are only around two hundred tickets available for each night. The seating is club-style, and there is a limited number of unnumbered seats.
