Adriano Adewale performs with students from the Global Music Department

Karaka-Tum is a percussion ensemble that forms part of a course offered by the Global Music programme at Sibelius Academy, Uniarts.

The ensemble explores rhythm and how people can engage with it through body percussion, vocal percussion, and a variety of percussion instruments from around the world.

In this performance, we will present a piece inspired by the famous Samba rhythm, a key element of Brazil’s carnival celebrations. Rhythm is a powerful tool for creativity and expression, and we aim to showcase both short compositions and the creative process behind them—how the rhythms and ideas were developed and how they were adapted to different instruments.

The participants will also perform using their own instruments, including the guzheng, shamisen, piano, drum kit, percussion and voice.
