German organist Christian Schmitt brings to the Musiikkitalo a selection of pieces showcasing a century of writing for the organ.

German organist Christian Schmitt – one of the most highly in demand in his field – loves to plan diverse concert programmes. He brings to the Musiikkitalo a selection of pieces showcasing a century of writing for the organ. César Franck’s Grand pièce symphonique became the French template for the genre known as the organ symphony. The programme before the interval comprises shorter pieces, including Signals by Maximilian Schnaus, written for Schmitt as a pedal etude that according to him is “at the limits of playability”.
