Claude Debussy: La mer

This evening, the concert hall is transformed into the kingdom of the seas. The first minutes of Felix Mendelssohn’s concert overture describe unfavourable conditions for sailors, a mirror-calm sea. As the piece progresses, however, the wind picks up, and the sailing ship arrives safely at its destination. Composer Camille Pépin, in turn, was inspired by the heavenly waters of an ancient Japanese fable. With Claude Debussy, we spend time at sea from morning to noon, watching the play of the waves and the dialogue between the wind and the waters.
