The thrill factor is high when the musicians of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra take on Béla Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra without a conductor.

Radek Baborak, horn

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: The Abduction from the Seraglio, Overture
Reinhold Glière: Horn Concerto
Béla Bartók: Concerto for Orchestra

“The title of this symphony-like orchestral work is explained by its tendency to treat the single orchestral instruments in a concertante or soloistic manner,” is how Béla Bartók described his Concerto for Orchestra. The instrument sections are put into the spotlight one by one to shine as virtuosos and measure themselves against each other.

The evening starts off with a sparkling operatic overture by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart studded with Turkish elements and the French horn prowess of guest soloist Radek Baborak.
