Ülo Krigul: Proteus pulse
Camille Saint‑Saëns: Piano Concerto No. 5 in F major “Egyptian”
Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony No. 3 “Eroica”

Composer Camille Saint-Saëns loved to travel. He escaped the cold winters of Paris for the warmth and sun of the south. The slow movement of his Fifth Piano Concerto, composed on a trip to Cairo, is filled with exotic elements, the chirping of grasshoppers and the croaking of frogs.

There is a hole in the manuscript of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Third Symphony. It was created when the composer scratched out Napoleon Bonaparte’s name from the dedication after he declared himself emperor. The Third Symphony was given a new, generic title, Sinfonia Eroica, the “heroic” symphony. Estonian conductor Kristiina Poska is currently recording the complete Beethoven symphonies.
