Sweethearts frequently inspire a work of art, but many composers also want to pay tribute to such loved-ones as their parents, a child or friends. Richard Strauss dedicated his Andante, nowadays a staple French-horn work, to his father, principal horn at the Munich Court Opera. Each of the movements in the Dance Suite by Leonard Bernstein – the last work he ever composed – is dedicated to one of his choreographer friends.
