Myrtsi is the project of Vaasa-born music maker Emma Uusi-Kokko, inspired by a homemade aesthetic, Ostrobothnian roots, and a sense of “myrtsiys” — a finnish word for sulking. Despite the occasional pout, playfulness and fun remain at the heart of the music. Myrtsi’s lyrics combine everyday philosophical reflection and straightforwardness, all with a touch of irony, accompanied by the joyful sounds of synthesizers and harmonious melancholy.

The debut single “ehkä syksy muuttaa kaiken” (Maybe Autumn Changes Everything), released in October, received a warm welcome and was highlighted in Soundi magazine and on radio stations such as YleX and Radio Helsinki.

“The magic of the track also lies in its incredible arrangement, which gives space to each instrument, showcasing them in their unique roles. And even if you analyze, observe, break it down, and dissect it, in the end, the whole remains a complete and beautiful poem you won’t want to forget.”
— Lotta Savolainen / Soundi

Myrtsi’s sound is also influenced by musician and producer Tiitus Wargelin, whose signature touch is evident in the mixing of Myrtsi’s releases. Wargelin and Uusi-Kokko have known each other since elementary school. In the live lineup, Uusi-Kokko’s compositions are brought to life by Wargelin, pianist Sonja Kaipainen, and double bassist Aaron Koskelainen.
