The iconic pieces from the TV series Moomin are now brought to life in a grand way – performed by a live orchestra at the Helsinki Music Centre.
You know what it sounds like. When the Groke approaches, when the Lady of the Cold sings or when Moominvalley is slowly covered in snow.
The Moomin music of Sumio Shiratori has been the definitive soundtrack for Finns since the 1990s. These iconic pieces are now brought to life in a grand way – performed by a live orchestra at the Helsinki Music Centre.
The orchestra consists of over 20 young professionals, who all have a special place for the Moomins in their hearts. The legendary pieces will be performed as brand-new arrangements, rich in sound and deeply respectful to the originals.
The beloved music of the 90s TV series Moomin is an inseparable part of Finland’s shared memory. We all know the sound when the Groke glides out of the darkness, when Snork’s airship rises into the sky, or when Snufkin sets off south and Moominvalley slowly disappears under the snow.
This concert is crafted especially for those of us who have fond childhood memories of Moominvalley and who, through music, wish to return there for a moment. The musical experience is complemented by familiar scenes from the Moomin series, projected onto the screen.
Composer Sumio Shiratori and his wife, singer Emiko Shiratori, have also been invited to Tuesday’s concert.

Tactile handrails and signage have been fitted across the building, and there are tactile indicator strips on the floor too to guide partially sighted and blind visitors. Induction loops are always available, and guide or companion dogs are of course permitted within the building.
