World premiere of Vito Žuraj's new work INNEN / SISÄLLÄ performedby the Helsinki Chamber Choir and Ensemble Recherche.

The Helsinki Chamber Choir was due to give the world premiere of Vito Žuraj’s new work INNEN / SISÄLLÄ in September 2020, but the pandemic intervened: now the work will finally be heard for the first time. Setting a specially commissioned libretto by Händl Klaus, INNEN / SISÄLLÄ explores the idea of creativity unhindered by disability, taking as its point of departure the painter Monet’s gradual loss of sight. This first collaboration between the Helsinki Chamber Choir and Freiburg-based ensemble recherche also features a virtuoso solo piece for female singer and instrumental ensemble by the Swedish composer Malin Bång, and works by Lotta Wennäkoski, Perttu Haapanen and Franck Bedrossian.

The concert is part of the Musica Nova festival. There is a conversation Uninhibited Creativity with visual artists before the concert at 14.30 in the Music Centre’s lower foyer. The event has free admission. Artists interviewed are visual artists Maarit Hedman and Riina Noro; the interviewer is project leader, dancer Maija Karhunen. The conversation will be held in Finnish.
