Iiro Rantala’s Christmas Oratorio presented in 2012 returns to the Cantores Minores Choir’s program after a five-year break.

The Christmas Oratorio, composed by Iiro Rantala and based on the text of pastor Jaakko Heinimäki, will be heard after a five-year break in December 2022 at Musiikkitalo. Cantores Minores premiered the work composed by Rantala in 2012. In addition to Cantores Minores, chamber orchestra Tiksola Co. will take the stage of the concert hall, Iiro Rantala at the piano and soprano Mari Palo and tenor Mika Pohjonen. The conductor is Hannu Norjanen.

This is how the composer himself describes the work and its origin:
“At the age of forty, a person usually starts to feel nostalgic about his youth. This nonsense struck me in 2010, and I contacted the Cantores Minores choir, where I spent my years 6-12. The current conductor of the choir liked the idea of doing something new together and thus the Christmas Oratorio was born. We invited the writing priest Jaakko Heinimäki to be the scriptwriter. The Christmas Oratorio is a bright and melodic work for Cantores Minores, chamber orchestra and tenor and soprano soloists. The orchestra also includes a piano and the composer himself plays the ball. The Christmas oratorio is based on the Bible’s Christmas story, told in the latest twist. I have also composed a couple of new parts for our wonderful soloists. Welcome to Musiikkitalo to experience this performance!”
