Johannes Brahms: Ein deutsches Requiem Op. 45

The programme for tonight has a special warmth, for Brahms is said to have resumed work on his Requiem after losing his friend Robert Schumann. The first to see the finished score was Robert’s widow Clara. Despite being called A German Requiem, it was intended as consolation for the living.
